DEFINITIONS
1. A fuchsia bloom for show purposes should have four sepals. Some cultivars habitually throw blooms, with more or less than four sepals, and this should not be treated as a cultural fault. A single flower should have four petals, a semi-double should have five to seven petals, and a double flower should have eight or more petals. Semi-double flowers should be exhibited in classes for single flower fuchsias.
2. Standard Sizes: Full Standard 762-1067mm (30″-42″) Half Standard 457-762mm (18″-30″)
Quarter Standard 254-457mm (10″-18″)Mini Standard 152-254mm (6″-10″)
(Measurements taken from top of compost to underside of first branch)
3. Standard Pots have the inside diameter of the pot approximately the same as the perpendicular height, but with a distinct taper.
4. A BEGINNER is a competitor who has not won a FIRST PRIZE at this show.
5. A NOVICE is a competitor who has not won a FIRST PRIZE at this show, with the possible exception of the Beginners Class.
CONDITIONS FOR EXHIBITORS
1. All plants must be grown in standard terracotta coloured pots, as defined above, except in classes 260, 266, 267, 268 and 269. Only commercially produced hanging containers will be permitted for classes 266, 267 and 268.
2. All plants must be the property of the exhibitor and have been in his or her possession for at least three months prior to the show. Plants must be shown in the final sized pots or containers in which they have been grown.
3. All plants must be clean and free of pests and diseases. Plants with obvious infestation will be removed from the show.
4. All exhibits must be correctly and legibly named. If an exhibitor does not know the name of the cultivar or species, it should be labelled “UNKNOWN”.
5. Any protest must be made within one hour of the show opening to the public and any such protest will be considered by such members of the Committee as are present. Any Committee Member having an interest in the objection or dispute cannot act.
6. To facilitate watering of the plants during the show, all pots must be contained in appropriately sized plant pot saucers.
7. Catch-all-class: this class is designed to allow what are considered the more unusual cultivars, e.g. inter-specific types and cultivars that show uncommon characteristics. The good spirit of the exhibitor and judge will make this possible. This class is not intended for plants that can be exhibited elsewhere in the show, no matter how difficult they are to grow or shape.
8. A full basket: the basket must be commercially manufactured as a hanging basket. The top must be circular in shape and not exceed 406mm (16″) in diameter; the maximum depth allowed is 255mm (10″). NB: Full baskets may have flat bottoms, solid bases and straight sides.
9. It is the exhibitor’s responsibility to ensure that exhibits are entered and staged in the correct class.
10. With the exception of class 269 all classes will be judged to BFS guidelines.
