EVENT REMINDER

May Meeting (19th) -

Our first guest speaker of the year is IAN STRAWSON. Ian is the BFS North West Area Representative and can be found visiting many of the shows and Societies around the North West region and further afield. This evening he will be giving a general talk on how he grows his Fuchsias.

For those who were not fortunate enough to visit the BFS 70th Anniversary Show, Ian was chiefly responsible for putting on this marvellous ‘Thalia Pyramid’ display which was made up of 200 plants on a metal frame.

Ian is visiting us from the ‘Dark Side’ (Lancashire) and can we have a good early turnout so the meeting can start on time.

NEW MEMBERS

We have no new members to welcome this month, but we welcome back Sandra Beales.

PAXTON HALL PLANT SALE

Don’t forget the Paxton Society ‘Plant Market’ at Paxton Hall, Kirkstall Lane, Leeds on May 15th.

Members can bring plants, cuttings hanging pots, troughs etc directly to the Paxton Hall (from

10.00am). The ‘market’ opens at 11.00am with some great gardening bargains from our stall and

other groups who will be represented on the day. If you would like to help on the day please have a word with Sid Taggar as he will be our ‘event day co-ordinator’ throughout the year.

HEAVENLY BODIES ‘UPDATE’

Due to the difficulty in obtaining plants associated with this theme, the display will now be similar to the one we will be exhibiting at the Great Yorkshire Show. However, if you are growing plants for the ‘Heavenly Bodies’ display please continue to do so as these may still be used.

ITEMS FOR SALE

Some of our newer members may not be aware that we have Society items for sale.

We have lapel badges at £1 each - see Wendy and embroidered polo shirts at £6.00 - see Tony.

Graham also has key rings, photographs and a few copies of the ‘Beginners Guide’.

Competitively priced pots, canes, labels, pens etc are also available on most meeting nights.

‘FUCHSIA MAGIC WEEKEND’

We are once again holding our meet the public event at Strikes Garden Centre, Wetherby

Road, Leeds on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th May. If you would like to help on either day can

you contact our ‘event day co-ordinator’ Sid.

GREAT YORKSHIRE SHOW - UPDATE

The design for the stand has been approved and we have in excess of 300 plants which are

being grown on. The best of these plants will be used on the display with the rest being for sale.

If anyone would like to volunteer to man the sales table at any time during the three days of

the show, please let Alan Swaby know.

‘CUTTING EXCHANGE’

With the loss of so many fuchsia nurseries we need to help each other obtain some of the

harder to come by varieties/species etc.

We are introducing the ‘Cutting Exchange’ where members can pass on cuttings/plants and

also ask other members if they have particular varieties/species etc they are seeking. Please

see leaflet for more details.
